Fraunhofer Group Light & Surfaces

In many ways, photonics and photonic technologies are the foundation of our modern society. As the science of using light to benefit humans, photonics drives innovation in many fields, from optical communication, lighting, displays and imaging to production technologies, life sciences, health, and environmental science.

Fraunhofer Photonica offers 20 young scientists the opportunity to experience applied research at leading photonics institutes. Even before completing their master's programs, students can broaden their knowledge and perspective on photonics research and applications.

During the Summer School, young scientists visit different Fraunhofer institutes across Germany. Travel and accommodation costs are covered. At each site, they take part in a topical scientific program with hands-on practical elements that provides insight into and different perspectives on photonics.
